Reusability and recycling
We have tried to develop the paperlesspaper picture frame with the entire lifecycle in mind. This means that every component can be easily reused or recycled.
The entire frame is easily disassemblable, which not only facilitates disposal but also creates room for creativity in the reuse of components.
Picture frame
The picture frame itself can be used again as a classic picture frame after removing the technical components. The frame itself is made of high-quality real wood.

The housing is made of PLA plastic, a biodegradable material made from renewable resources such as corn starch.
ESP32 module: Modular and flexible
The heart of the electronics, the ESP32 module, is not soldered but simply detachable and can be reused for other projects. Furthermore, the open architecture allows for the installation of custom firmware, enabling hobbyists and tech enthusiasts to customize the picture frame individually.

The eInk display is merely screwed in, which makes disassembly easier. This allows it to be easily used in other applications or projects.

Power consumption
A remarkable advantage of the eInk display is its extremely low power consumption. It requires energy only for changing the image, while the image itself remains displayed permanently. Compared to a conventional digital picture frame, which continuously requires power and can cause annual electricity costs of approximately €7–15, the frame only requires 4 standard AAA batteries.
